MORGANTOWN - West Virginia University has added new online course to the continuing and professional education curriculum.

The courses include dementia care worker training, forensic nursing, early cartoon animation history and a gerontology workshop series.

The gerontology workship will include five sessions and begins April 1. Each workshop is approved for six social work continuing education hours for West Virginia-licensed social workers. Registration is open.

Forensic nursing and early cartoon animation history will begin in the summer, and dementia care worker training will begin in the fall.

Food handlers

classes set

WEIRTON - The Hancock County Health Department will conduct a food handlers class at 6 p.m. April 2 at the All Saints Greek Orthodox Church located at 3528 West St.

The class is open to the public. Any person involved in food service in Hancock and Brooke counties is required to possess a current food handler card. The class is for volunteers as well as those employed in the food service industry.

Food handler cards are free to volunteers working for a non-profit organization. For those employed in food establishments, the cost is $7 for a one-year card, $12 for a two-year card, and $17 for a three-year card.

Food Handler training may also be obtained by taking an online class at Payment for the online class may be made by using a credit card or "Pay Pal." Participants may also print the completion verification and pay the fee at the Hancock County Health Department between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.

monthly dinner

WEIRTON - The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2716 will hold the monthly dinner from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. April 6 at the post located on Main Street.

Dinner includes roast beef, mashed potatoes, gravy, vegetables and dessert.

Tickets are $7 each and including a chance in a $500 drawing. They may be purchase from any club member or by calling (304) 748-9674.

Sacred Heart

WEIRTON - Sacred Heart of Mary Church will hold the Divine Mercy Celebration from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. April 7, Divine Mercy Sunday, at the church located at 200 Preston Ave., on Weirton Heights.

The celebration will include hymns, reads, Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament, Reconciliation and the Divine Mercy Chaplet written by St. Faustina of Poland.

The devotion is held the second Sunday of the Easter season by directive of Blessed Pope John Paul II.

All are welcome to attend.

'Annie' auditions


HICKORY, Pa. - The Old Schoolhouse Players will hold auditions for "Annie," directed by Bethany Kohl-Peternel, April 7-8 and 13 at the Old Schoolhouse Players Theater at the Mount Pleasant Township Community Center located at 20 Wabash Ave.

Children 18 and under will audition from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. April 7, and adults will audition from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. April 8. Additional auditions will be by invitation only.

Auditions will include cold readings from the script and take approximately 20 meetings. Monologues are welcome, but not required. Those who are able to come early and read with others are asked to do so. This is a volunteer performance.

The show will take place July 19-21 and 26-28.

The workshop is open to women 18 and older, and seating is limited.

STEUBENVILLE, Ohio - The Mount Carmel First United Methodist Church Anniversary Committee will host a youth night at 7 p.m. April 12 at the church located at 3301 West St.

Arletta Reed and Jamar Harvey's mime ministry and poet Eugene Williams will be special guests. The Anointed Children of God Mime Ministry of Macedonia Baptist Church in Duquesne, Pa., will be featured in concert.

WELLSBURG - The Wellsburg Moose Lodge seeks vendors for an indoor yard sale to be held from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 13 at the lodge at 844 Main St.

AVELLA, Pa. - The Powers Auto Crushing Inc. Relay for Life Team will hold an indoor yard sale from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 13 at the Avella Volunteer Fire Department on Avella Road.

Donated items, including furniture, household items, toys books, collectibles, seasonal items, decor, tools and appliances, will be accepted. Computer monitors will not be accepted. Donated items can be dropped off April 12 at the fire department.

All proceeds benefit the American Cancer Society.

WEIRTON - The Mary H. Weir Public Library will host a proposal writing basics workshop presented by Christopher "Kief" Schladweiler, Foundation Center Co-operating Collections coordinator, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. April 15 in the library's activity room.

He also will discuss grant-seeking resources and answer questions about the Foundation Center and its databases.

NEW CUMBERLAND - Hancock County Schools will host free development skill screenings for children from birth to 5-years-old from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 19 at the Board of Education Conference Room on the bottom floor of the New Cumberland City Building located at 104 N. Court St.

The screenings will include thinking, movement, play, self-care, language and behavior. School psychologists, educational and early intervention specialists and speech therapists will be available to answer questions.

Guest speaker Steve Stevens will present seven "Divine Design for Marriage" lessons on Christian marriage. Topics will include "Key Bible Concepts for Marriage," "Divorce and Remarriage, What Saith the Scriptures" and "How Should Christians Handle the Issue of Same-Sex Marriage."
