Run-walk again a success

March 24, 2013
Weirton Daily Times

To the Editor,

How do you recognize and thank all who were involved in the third-annual Campbell-Dickinson St. Patrick Run/Walk for the Trinity Foundation - Cancer T.E.A.R. Fund and the Toronto Coalition for Revitalization?

You start by thanking Jenny Dickinson and the family of William "Pat" Campbell for their endorsement of the event and the inspiration which they provided to all involved.

Sincere thanks and appreciation to Susan Miller, oncology patient advocate of the Teramana Cancer Center, for enduring countless phone calls and e-mails asking her advice and counsel.

Thank you to Chief Clark Crago and the personnel of the Toronto Emergency Medical Services for the use of the TEMS building and services provided by TEMS.

The city of Toronto deserves recognition extended to Mayor John Geddis, Service Director John Hanna, police Officer Larry Fogel and those who worked under their direction.

Kathy Musso, executive director of the American Red Cross Jefferson County Chapter, and her volunteers deserve thanks for providing water to the many participants at the half-way point.

The countless volunteers who gave of their time without question are to be thanked, especially the student nurses from the Trinity School of Nursing.

Special thanks goes out to our media partners; WTOV-TV, WCDK-FM, Comcast and the Ogden Newspaper group comprised of the Herald-Star, Wheeling Intelligencer, The Weirton Daily Times and the East Liverpool Review.

To the business sponsors and the individual sponsors of the runners and walkers, thank you for the generosity you provided by way of in kind services and financial support. Special thanks to Jenny Dickinson and her team, Jenny's Journey, for the benefit they had in Toronto to raise $6,350 for the T.E.A.R. Fund. Not to forget the other 14 teams that were formed to show their support against cancer, including UMB, Valley Hospice, Celtic Bosom Buddies, Holy Walkamolies, Columbia, 5k Krazies, Pearson's Posse, Team Awesome, J.C. Wine, Rohde Team, Run for Fun, Scrubs, Team Spirit and Team Paws for Emmitt, for a total of 348 team members.

The most important of all to be recognized are the 874 runners and walkers who registered to run or walk in the Campbell-Dickinson event. They turned a cold and damp day into one which filled our hearts with sunshine and warmth. Ages of the participants ranged from 2 up to an 82-year "young" walker. Individuals came from six states to take part in the run and walk for cancer assistance.

For the second year, the St. Baldrick's Shave-Off, organized by Matt Lewis and carried out by Toronto hair dressers, raised thousands of dollars for childhood cancer research in honor of Conner Sacrapanti.

The run-walk will be held next year on March 15, the Saturday before St. Patrick's Day, to honor cancer survivors, those fighting the battle and those that have died due to cancer. You are invited to be part of that celebration.

For information on how you can help next year, call (740) 544-6439 or e-mail tcfr@brdband.com.
