Hall of Fame good for city

March 29, 2013
Weirton Daily Times

Every community has its own unique history and culture which should be recognized and preserved for future generations.

As we previously mentioned, Weirton currently is in the process of accepting nominations for its annual hall of fame induction ceremonies. Those ceremonies will take place in August.

But Weirton is not the only local community with such an institution.

The city of Chester established its own hall of fame a few years ago, and, while it took a year off, plans for this year's induction are well on their way.

The new class of the Chester Hall of Fame will be introduced July 3. The 12-member committee currently is accepting nominations, and we hope the residents of the city, and the rest of Hancock County, will consider who they think should be included.

Over six years, the Chester Hall of Fame has inducted 21 individuals from the community's history. To be considered, a person has to have lived in Chester at some point in their life and contributed to the community in some way.

Categories of consideration are business, education, entertainment, government, military and sports.

The deadline for nominations is May 15.

The Chester Hall of Fame was created as part of the city's centennial celebration in 2007.

A community's history should be preserved, and we are fortunate in our area to have so many organizations working to do just that.

We encourage Hancock County residents to continue with these efforts and submit your nominations.
