WEIRTON - Weirton Madonna received another fine pitching performance, this one from Luca Fuscardo, in Tuesday's 10-0, six-inning victory over Steubenville Catholic Central at Bowman Field.

The Blue Dons have allowed three runs in 20 innings in their 3-0 start.

"It was great to see another strong pitching performance," said Madonna head coach T.J. Brancazio. "And, Nick Mazur came in and threw the ball well again.

"We hit the ball well today."

Will Bowser led the 10-hit attack with a solo shot to right field and added a double. Nick Ossman had two singles and Tory Fuscardo a double, single and two RBIs.

"We have to hit the ball better. We didn't do a good job of putting the ball in play," said Crusaders head coach Don Young. "Of course, a lot of that has to do with their pitcher because he threw a heck of a game.

"They have a nice team."

Luca Fuscardo struck out nine and walked two in six innings. He allowed three singles.

Bowser started the second with his homer. Ossman and Dom Silvestri singled and Vinnie Merico reached on an error. Tory Fuscardo doubled two outs later and Michael Rogers reached on an error that scored Fuscardo.

Madonna scored twice in the fourth. Merico walked, Mazur singled, Fuscardo reached on an error and Baire later singled.

Merico's single in the fifth scored Ossman.

Madonna scored three times in the sixth to end it on three singles, two walks and a fielder's choice.

"The kids are coming to play every day and have a good attitude," said Brancazio. "We still have work to do, but this is a good start to the season."

Jack Reed took the loss in his first varsity start. He went 4 innings and Joe DeFallo came in to finish. The Crusaders fell to 1-1.

"I thought they both pitched pretty decently," said Young.

"We haven't been outside much, so it will be nice to get outside tomorrow because we need to work on some things before we play a really good Toronto team on Thursday. We have to get better."
