New Beginners

swear in officers

The New Beginners Circle of the Bloomingdale United Methodist Church met March 12 with Colleen Rouse, president, presiding. Carolyn Mehl gave the opening prayer.

The meeting included the swearing-in of officers. In addition to Rouse as president, Marian Weeks is vice president; Florence Cesaro, secretary; and Claire Beany, treasurer.

The group made plans for the May 11 spaghetti dinner with proceeds from it to go toward a new roof for the church.

Weeks served as hostess, reading a story about daffodils. Rouse read a poem.

Pasta dinner at

Brentwood UMC

Brentwood United Methodist Church located at 148 Stephens St., just off Bantam Ridge Road, Wintersville, will host a pasta dinner on April 13 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.

The meal includes pasta, salad, bread, dessert and beverage. Cost is by donation.

Takeout meals will be available by calling the church at (740) 264-4531.

Jonathan White

special speaker

Two Ridges Presbyterian Church, 1085 Canton Road, Wintersville will present Jonathan White in ministry and song at the 9:30 a.m. worship service on April 14.

The son of a preacher who later became an evangelist, White cultivated a deep love for singing at an early age and through trying times embraced his main goal in ministry to encourage Christians in their walk with God and to consider that burdens can turn out to be blessings.

White has performed for varied audiences - from small churches to the Grand Ole Opry and the Bill Gaither Homecoming concert series.

A free will offering will be taken.

More Than A Show

set to perform

More Than A Show, a Christian rock-rock worship band based in Dayton, will be performing in concert at 6:30 p.m. April 13 at the Carrollton Bible Chapel located at 365 Steubenville Road, S.E. Carrollton.

Two food items are requested for admission to attend the concert and will be donated to Loaves and Fishes, a local food pantry. A love offering also will be taken.

The group also will assist the praise team at the church's 10:30 a.m. service on April 14.

Both performances are open to the public.

WMU members hold meeting

The Women's Missionary Union of the Open Door Baptist Church in Colliers met April 3 with seven members attending.

President Mildred Richter presided, and Rosemary Jennings opened with prayer and gave devotions taken from John 4:5 on sharing faith.

Reports were given by Donna Garrison, secretary, and treasurer Pam Holden, who noted the Annie Armstrong Easter offering was $2,600.

Richter read a letter from West Virginia Southern Baptist regarding WMU celebrating 125 years. She also read a thank-you note from Mission Dignity that the group helps sponsor. Correspondence from missionary Becky McGregor also was read.

The group agreed to give a flower to all mothers on Mother's Day, which is May 12, and also voted to donate $100 to Matthew Buchanan toward his mission trip to Haiti.

Plans were made for a talent show to be held at the church on April 28. Each was given a part. "Color Magic" is the title and is based on an American Indian legend.

Jennings will serve as hostess at the next meeting, which is set for May 7 at the church.

monthly luncheon

Christ Episcopal Church located at 1014 Main St., Wellsburg, is sponsoring its monthly luncheon on April 11 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The menu will include a roast beef sandwich, chips, beverage and the cake of the month - chocolate sheet cake - all for $6.50. Individual sandwiches are available for $4.50.

Patrons can dine in or get takeout.

Deliveries can be made to businesses and shut-ins by calling (304) 737-3432 after 8:30 a.m. on the day of the luncheon.

St. Peter's CWC

lines up activities

The St. Peter Church Catholic Woman's Club held its monthly meeting on April 2 with Linda Edgar, president, leading in the opening and closing prayers.

Members heard a report on the Mother of Hope Deanery meeting, and it was decided that CWC members would host "Doughnut Sunday" on April 21 and collect free-will donations for the Madonna Plan after the Masses on May 11 and 12.

Other discussions included the First Communion reception on May 5; the 2013 DCCW Convention on June 5; and "A Day with Bishop Monforton" on Oct. 17.

A reception is being planned June 9 to celebrate the Rev. Timothy Huffman's 20th anniversary in the priesthood.

Bernie Zapolnik won the 50/50 drawing.

The next CWC meeting will be held at noon on May 14 in the church hall.

It will be a covered-dish lunch with the club providing pasta and sauce.

Spaghetti dinner

April 17 at Hill Top

There will be a spaghetti dinner from 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on April 17 at the Hill Top Fellowship Hall located at the corner of county Road 46 and state Route 213, Toronto.

The menu will be spaghetti with meat sauce/meat balls, salad bar, Italian bread, homemade pie, and hot and cold beverages.

Patrons can eat in or get carryout. Donations will be accepted.

Sveta Petka Polo

to make bread

The Sveta Petka Kolo of Holy Resurrection Serbian Orthodox Church in Steubenville held its monthly meeting at Eat' n Park, deciding to change the date of two events.

The group will bake pogacas on April 23 now and has changed the date of next month's meeting to May 9, as the regular meeting date falls during Holy Week this year.

At the May meeting, Linda Bain will give a presentation on what the Women In Action Against Cancer Coalition does in the community.

The group will conduct a bake sale after the April 28 church service.

Dottie Bossert will be filling as group treasurer.

The group made a monthly donation to the church choir in memory of Sloabon Zelich.

Church celebrating

10th anniversary

Marland Heights Community Church located at 3900 Bright Way, Weirton, will celebrate its 10th anniversary with a special service beginning at 10 a.m. April 21, according to Pastor John and Emal Westling.

Michael James Facciani will provide special music with guests including the Rev. Mike Watson and volunteer workers from churches who helped during the past decade with renovations made to the building, originally Marland Heights Elementary School before its closing.

There will be free food and fellowship following the service.

Triumph CWC has

busy meeting

Triumph of the Cross Catholic Woman's Club met April 2 with First Coordinator Terri Fernandes presiding.

The group will make prayer cards for this year's first communicants.

Fernandes thanked everyone who helped with this year's Lenten series programs.

It was announced that the DCCW 2013 Convention will be held June 5, at Froehlich's Classic Corner in Steubenville. There will be a pre-convention dinner at Froehlich's on June 4.

The next meeting, a potluck dinner, will be held May 7.

Participants whose last name begins with A-L are to bring a vegetable or salad.

Those with a last name beginning with M-Z are to bring a dessert.

Hostesses were Dee Dee Nodianos, Donna Collins and Mamie Bucci.

Prize winners were Francesca Veltri, Mamie Bucci and Jean Zrinyi.

Spring gospel

meeting coming

The Weirton Heights Church of Christ, located on Pennsylvania Avenue in Weirton, will present its annual spring gospel meeting on April 21-25.

This year's topic is "Divine Design For Marriage" with guest speaker Steve Stevens presenting seven lessons centering on God's design for a Christian marriage.

Topics will include "Key Bible Concepts for Marriage," "Divorce + Remarriage: What Saith the Scriptures" and " How Should Christians Handle the Issue of Same Sex Marriage."
