Spence OC at W&J

WASHINGTON - Steubenville Catholic Central graduate Steve Spence has been named the Washington & Jefferson offensive coordinator. He is also the Presidents' strength and speed conditioning coordinator for all 24 NCAA Division III sports.

Spence has been a member of the Presidents' football coaching staff since 2010. Spence has focused primarily on the Presidents' wide receivers and tight ends, while also working as the speed conditioning coach.

A 2008 John Carroll graduate with a degree in exercise science, Spence was a two-year quarterback from 2005-2006 for JCU.

Big Red moms to meet

STEUBENVILLE - The Big Red football and cheerleader mothers will meet at 6 p.m. Sunday at the Harding Middle School cafeteria. All future freshmen parents are also invited. Upcoming events for April and May will be discussed.

Creek to hold skills clinic

WINTERSVILLE - The Indian Creek High School girls basketball program will offer a free basketball skills clinic from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. April 28, May 5 and May 19 for all girls in grades 5-8 in the high school gym.

STEUBENVILLE - The Big Red Boosters Club will meet at 6 p.m. Monday at the high school conference room. All are welcome. Memberships are available.

Steelers to hold sign-ups

WEIRTON - The Weirton Steelers will hold sign-ups from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday and April 20 and 21 at the Millsop Community Center. The cost is $65 for one child, $125 for two children in the same family and $200 with three or more children.

FUS tennis wins

STEUBENVILLE - The Franciscan University of Steubenville men's tennis team blanked West Virginia State Thursday at Belleview Park, 9-0.

Due to academic scheduling, the Barons had to shuffle around their roster to accommodate the mid- afternoon game. Captain Paul Jarzynka and sophomore John Shultis played together for the first time this year and won 8-2 while freshmen Robert Butcher and Joseph Staniszewski won their doubles match 8-4.
