Marland Heights Community Church to celebrate April 21

WEIRTON - The Marland Heights Community Church will celebrate its 10th anniversary at the 10 a.m. worship service April 21 at the church located at 3900 Bright Way.

A luncheon will immediately follow the service. The public is invited to attend.

Knights to hold dinner

WEIRTON - The Weirton Knights of Columbus will hold a spaghetti dinner from noon to 5 p.m. April 21 at the knights' gallery lounge.

The meal includes spaghetti, meatballs, salad, bread and coffee.

The cost is $7 for adults, $4 for children 12 and under and free for children 6 and under.

Take-out is available; those wanting take-out should bring their own containers.

Dinner theater to benefit 4-H

WELLSBURG - Mystery Theater Unlimited will present an original musical comedy murder mystery, "Dead of the Class," on April 27 to benefit the Brooke County 4-H program.

Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. for the show, which will be presented at Staffileno's on the River.

Tickets are $30 each and reservations should be made no later than 4 p.m. Friday by calling (304) 737-3666 or (304) 374-8336.

Admission is limited to adults 18 and older.

History group to meet

AVELLA - Local historian Eugene Painter will lead a tour of the Patterson Mill area of Avella during a meeting of the A.D. White Research Society, April 27.

The group will meet at 2 p.m. at the mill's site on Cross Creek Road and also will attempt to find remains of the cabin that was home to Joseph K. McNutt, who operated the mill in 1887.

A.D. White Society member Joan Baker's mother was born in the cabin.

The group also will tour the home of Fred and Beverly Hofrichter, which also was home to the Pattersons.

Dinner to benefit Brooke Place

WEIRTON - Family Connections will hold its annual dinner-dance to benefit Brooke Place, a group home for girls, April 27 at the Serbian-American Cultural Center.

Appetizers and a cash bar will be available at 6 p.m., with dinner to be served at 7 p.m. There will be drawings, theme baskets up for auction and door prizes.

Music will be provided by disc jockey Rico Johnson.

Child Abuse Awareness observed

WELLSBURG - A Child's Place Court-Appointed Special Advocate will hold a candlelight vigil at 7:30 p.m. April 29 in observance of Child Abuse Awareness Month and seeks sponsors for the luminaria, which will line the Wellsburg Town Square.

The luminaria may be sponsored for donations of $5 for more, which will go to efforts by the nonprofit group to represent the interests of children involved in abuse and neglect cases in Brooke and Hancock counties and ensure they are in a safe, supportive home.
