Gala will help center continue its mission

April 20, 2013
Weirton Daily Times

The Jefferson County Fourth Street Health Center's fundraising gala will be held Sunday, and we're hoping Tri-State Area residents will continue to support this very worthy cause.

In the past, the willingness of area residents who stepped up and helped their neighbors in need by attending the gala was overwhelming. So we hope to see a packed St. Florian Hall in Wintersville Sunday.

This year's event, the seventh-annual, will help generate funds for the clinic and its mission of providing health care to uninsured residents of Jefferson County.

To be honored during the evening are individuals and groups who have made significant contributions to the success of the center, which is under the capable direction of Ann Quillen, the executive director.

The 47 members of the Woman's Club of Steubenville will be recognized as the community honorees for 2013 by the health center's board of directors. And, Marge DeMark of Steubenville will be honored as the volunteer of the year, while Charlotte Jones will be honored at the gala as the medical honoree.

During the semi-formal dinner the gala committee also will honor the 2013 Young Ambassadors from area high schools, who help raise money for the health center. Each student, in the process, learns about philanthropy and fundraising skills.

We also acknowledge and applaud the efforts Eileen and Dr. Frank J. Petrola, who are serving as co-chairs of this year's gala. Dr. Petrola has served as the volunteer medical director at the health center since it opened its doors in a former dinette, and with the Petrolas leading the way, we're sure this year's goal of raising $100,000 will be met.

The center, which opened its doors at 701 N. Fourth St. in Steubenville on March 13, 2006, continues to grow, and plans call for free dental services and a mental health clinic in the future.

Please consider supporting the Jefferson County Fourth Street Health Center by attending Sunday's gala celebration. Its vital purpose must be allowed to continue.
