CHARLESTON - The West Virginia Department of Commerce is inviting youth to enter three contests held in celebration of the state's upcoming 150th birthday.
Children in kindergarten through fourth grade are challenged to create a birthday card for the occasion. Those in sixth through eighth grade or ages 12-14 are invited to assume the role of a video reporter and create a two-minute video segment showcasing something unique about the state, while students in ninth through 12th grades are challenged to create their own videos answering "What makes West Virginia special?"
Prizes will be awarded to a first and second place winner in each category and include a Kindle, $50 gift card for art supplies for their classes and inclusion in the department's website or state birthday celebration.
All entries must be submitted no later than May 15. For information, visit the department's website at www.wvcommerce.org/art150.
