Piece by Peace Sensory Rooms are located at 2850 Weir Ave., on the Krazy 'Bout Sportz Entertainment Complex's second floor.
Statistics show one in 88 children will diagnosed on the autism spectrum, with the disorder four times more prevalent in boys than girls.
The sensory rooms provide a therapeutic place where people of all ages, diagnosed with cognitive disorders from autism to Alzheimer's can improve posture; movement; gross, fine and oral motor skills; adaptive behavior; learning and memory; and speech and language. This is achieved through one-on-one guided play with parents and/or therapists.
One of two planned rooms is open. This room is an interactive playroom where senses are developed with activities such as playing on a trampoline, swinging, searching for toys in rice, rolling on exercise balls, finger painting and building with blocks.
In the near future, the quiet room will open. The room will include soft lighting and soft furnishings with things such as bubble lights, a projector, a swinging hammock chair, interactive wall panels, lava lamps and computers for games and/or listening.
