STEUBENVILLE - The TRiO Student Support Services program at Eastern Gateway Community College received perfect scores for the 2011-12 reporting year.
The U.S. Department of Education awarded prior experience points on the basis of serving the approved number of students and meeting or exceeding the project's approved objectives. Eastern Gateway's program serves 160 eligible students at the Jefferson County campus in Steubenville and the Valley Center in Youngstown.
The program objectives include:
- Persistence - The percentage of all participants who enroll at the institution in the fall term of the next academic year, graduate or transfer to a four-year institution.
- Good academic standing - The percentage of participants who met the performance level required to stay in good academic standing.
- Associate degree or certificate attainment and transfer - The percentage of new participants who graduate with an associate degree or certificated within four reporting years. Another set of points is given for the percentage of graduates who transfer to a four-year school within four reporting years.
"We are excited to receive this excellent review because that means we are helping our students to succeed," said Dorothy Collins, director of TRiO programs and academic advising. "We celebrate our students' achievements and are pleased that the efforts of this program have made some of their achievements possible."
