STEUBENVILLE - Two men were arrested and charged with gun possession Tuesday evening and City Police are looking for a third person who took off running and wasn't caught.

An officer saw a group of six men walking down the middle of Carnegie Avenue, between Euclid and Ridge avenues, around 8:45 p.m. The officer said he was going to write citations to the men for failure to use a sidewalk.

A Jefferson County sheriff's deputy arrived as backup and saw a gun in the rear pocket of one of the men.

Devin Williams, 27, of 1235 Wellesley Ave. was charged with carrying a concealed weapon.

Police reported another man, Brandon Garrison, 23, of 310 S. Fifth St. tried to take off running but was caught by officers. He also was carrying a handgun. Garrison was charged possession of marijuana, having a weapon as a convicted felon, carrying a concealed weapon, obstructing official business and resisting arrest.

Garrison pleaded guilty in 2010 to carrying a concealed weapon and was sentenced to six months in prison. He then was given a lifetime weapons disability.

A third person, whom police identified as Raymond Jeter, 19, of 1419 Orchard St., took off running, police reported. An officer said he saw a handgun magazine fall out of Jeter's clothing. The officer lost sight of Jeter but suspected he went into a house in the 1300 block of Euclid Avenue. The officer reported a resident of the house denied Jeter was inside and also refused to voluntarily allow cops to search the home.

A handgun holster and a box of ammunition were found on the porch of the Euclid Avenue home, police reported.

Officers charged the following with failure to use a sidewalk: Detroy Smith, 23, of 1317 Euclid Ave.; Sheldon Purdy, 21, of 302 Belleview Blvd.; and Maurice Bougard, 24, of 525 N. Sixth St.

Bond for Williams and Garrison was set at $100,000 each.
