NEW CUMBERLAND - The Hancock County Health Department will conduct a food handler class at 5 p.m. Monday at the New Cumberland Volunteer Fire Department located at 300 N. Chester St.
The class is open to the public.
Any person involved in food service in Hancock and Brooke counties is required to possess a current Food Handler card. The class is for volunteers as well as those employed in the food service industry. Those working as vendors for fairs, festivals and parades are required to have food handler cards if working with potentially hazardous foods.
Food Handler cards are free to volunteers working for a non-profit organization. For those employed in food establishments, the cost is $7 for a one-year card, $12 for a two-year card and $17 for a three-year card.
Food Handler training may also be obtained by taking an online class at www.HancockCountyHealthDepartment.com. Payment for the online class may be made by using a credit card or PayPal.
Participants also may print the completion verification and pay the fee at the health department from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.
