Coal truck overturns on U.S. Route 250
CADIZ - A coal truck accident left the driver injured and briefly closed U.S. Route 250 Thursday morning.
The truck operated by Gerald Bruce, 53, Bellaire, was eastbound on Route 250 near Cadiz when it overturned, knocking over a guardrail and spilling coal on the road, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol. Hydraulic fluid spilled.
Emergency response teams from Cadiz and Harrisville responded, and Bruce was transported to Harrison Community Hospital with head lacerations, according to reports.
Officials contained the spill and a cleaning company was called to the scene, officials said.
Route 250 was briefly closed while the truck was towed away.
Ohio Department of Transportation officials said the guardrail should be repaired by Monday.
Bruce was cited for failure to control, according to officials, who said speed may have been a factor.
