Cherry Blossom Park grows

May 5, 2013
Weirton Daily Times

To the editor:

Cherry Blossom Memorial Park in Mingo Junction was originally thought of to preserve Mingo High School's 100-year history (1893-1993). The high school served the community proudly and we felt the teachers and staff that dedicated their lives to our community deserved to be remembered.

It's an example of, if you have a dream and determination, and people behind you have that same dream, many things are possible.

Today, the memorial wall is home to more than 80 plaques honoring teachers and staff. These people touched the lives of so many and now they are still watching over Mingo Junction.

I'd like to thank everyone who helped with our sixth-annual ceremony on April 15 - speakers Bob Smith; Wiz Fabian; Hills Principal Cecilia Fritz; and Sarah Poulton from the office of U.S. Rep. Bill Johnson, R-Marietta. I want to thank Johnson's office for donating the U.S. flag; state Sen. Lou Gentile, D-Steubenville, for donating the Ohio flag; and Terry Snyder for the Mingo High School flag. A special thanks the children from Hills Elementary School for the work they do on the park every year, and a big thank-you to all the volunteers who donate their time.
