Orthodox Easter celebrated

May 5, 2013
Weirton Daily Times
The All Saints Greek Orthodox Church, located at 3528 West St., Weirton, and local Eastern Orthodox churches celebrate Easter today. All Saints’ Easter services began with the preparation for the resurrection 11:30 p.m. Saturday, followed by the resurrection services at midnight today, which was followed by the Orthros and Divine Liturgy of St. John Chrysostom. Chantor John Avouris, left, and the Rev. Frank Milanese, All Saints pastor, right, place the banner of resurrection, a symbol of Jesus’ return from death in the Eastern Orthodox tradition. The banner will be displayed in the church for the next 40 days. All Saints’ services continue with Agape Vespers at 11 a.m. today. They will be held in several languages, reminding those attending the message of Christ is for the entire world. -- Summer Wallace-Minger
