WEIRTON - President Diane Pastoric welcomed members of the Weirton Woman's Club, a General Federation of Women's Clubs of West Virginia member club, to the closing meeting at Williams Country Club recently.
Rita Griffith was recognized for being a 50-year club member.
Wilma Roberts gave the inspiration and led the Pledge of Allegiance.
Program Chair Jeannie Amidon introduced vocalist Victoria Gerst, the granddaughter of club member Lea Shirer. Gerst, a Brooke High School senior, is a member of the band and Madrigal Choir, which traveled to Italy and sang at the Vatican last summer. Gerst also was Eve in a recent production of "Children of Eden" at the high school.
Fundraising Chair Teresa McGown said the club will sponsor a mystery dinner show later this year.
Membership Chair June Pulice announced Kathy Snyder won a free one-year club membership at Ladies Day at the Chamber.
Yearbook Chair Angela Reinard asked chairs submit all pertinent information for the yearbook by email, phone or mail by June 15.
Bonnie Nichols announced the Drama Committee will perform at the Veterans Memorial Day celebration May 27. Pastoric and Public Issues Chair Cathy Cooper will present a wreath, and members were encouraged to attend. Cooper said the club purchased a brick for the Walk of Memories at the Brooke-Hancock County Veterans Memorial.
Education Chair Chris Fair coordinated the "Letters About Literature" program, which will be held May 29 at Weirton Heights Elementary School. Thirty-six fourth-graders participated, with four state honor winners, each of whom will be awarded a $25 gift certificate from the Weirton Book Co. All participants will be given an "I Love Reading" pin.
Carol Village displayed one of the handmade aprons she is sending to the Pearl Buck Gift Shop. She also reported the Religion and Spiritual Values Committee, including Marge DiClemente, June Pulice, Barbara Visnic and Village, will making their monthly visit to the Weirton Geriatric Center for Mothers Day. The Rev. Kevin Bowers will be the spiritual leader.
The Art Department will meet at noon June 7 at Undo's and award scholarships; Garden Department will meet at noon May 14 at Undo's and award scholarships; and the Literary Department will meet May 18 at Williams Country Club, with Judi Noble of Home Laughlin China Co. as the guest.
The summer conference will be held Aug. 2-3 at Flatwoods, and the district convention will be held Oct. 12 in Moundsville.
Mary Ellen Groves, Mildred Green, Lois Flemm, Angela Reinard, Shirley DeLuca, Connie Gilbert, Donna Gialluco, Rita Griffith and Susan Slowikowski received door prizes. Judy Burdine won the 50/50 drawing.
