to hold Buddy Poppy Days
WELLSBURG - The Wellsburg American Legion Auxiliary will be distributing buddy poppies in exchange for donations on May 24 and 25 at various locations in the Wellsburg area.
The donations will go to helping hospitalized veterans and those living at the state veterans home. The poppies are made by disabled veterans for the cause.
School holding registration make-up
AVELLA, Pa. - The Avella Area Schools make-up kindergarten registration will be held Wednesday.
A child must be 5 years old by Aug. 31 to enter kindergarten.
Parents or guardians must bring a birth certificate issues by the Bureau of Vital Statistics; an immunization record showing the child is up-to-date with DTP, polio, measles, mumps, rubella, hepatitis B and chicken pox vaccinations; completed health history form; proof of residency, either a tax bill, rent receipt or current utility bill; general information form and language survey; and a court order if there are specific restrictions involving a child's custody or guardianship.
Forms can be picked up at the elementary school office prior to registration.
Those new to the district are asked to register with their township.
Each child will be assessed for developmental screening, reading placement screening, speech and vision and meet with a kindergarten teacher. The registration will take approximately one-and-half to two hours.

Woodwind workshop set
CALIFORNIA, Pa. - The Three Rivers Saxophone Quartet will hold the 23rd annual Saxophone and Woodwind Workshop June 24-28 at the California University of Pennsylvania's Gallagher Music Hall.
Ken Peplowski, jazz clarinetist and saxophonist, recording artist, educator and clinician, will be the special guest.
It is open to saxophonists from middle school through adult. The week-long program will include private lessons, small and large ensembles, jazz improvisation classes, big band sections, orchestra excerpts and master classes in all aspects of woodwind playing, repair and maintenance, theory, solfeggio, video and recording presentations and jam sessions.

WEIRTON - The Brooke High School Class of 1974 will hold its 40th reunion July 12 at the Serbian American Cultural Center.
