John Teeters

TEETERS, John Paul, 71, of Wellsburg, WV, passed away suddenly on Thursday, May 30, 2013, at home.

He was born on October 8, 1941, in Glendale, WV, a son of the late Charles and Margaretta (McCreight) Teeters.

In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his brother, Charles W. Teeters, Jr. and his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Tillie and Harley A. Braun.

John graduated from Wheeling High School in 1960. While in high school, John played baseball for the Wheeling Legion. After high school, he signed with the Detroit Tigers and played professional baseball from 1961-1966. After he retired from baseball he still worked for the Detroit organization as a territorial scout. He was a member of the Detroit Tiger's Alumni Association and the Professional Baseball Player's of America. With baseball, a lifelong passion for John, he went on to play for the Warwood Redbirds and started the Windsor Heights Semi Pro Team.

He was employed by Kopper's Chemical in Follansbee, WV, where he retired after 33 years of service. John owned and operated E-Z Pool and Marina for 30 years. He was a member of the National Swimming Pool and Spa institute (N.S.P.I.).

He was elected to both the Brooke County Commission and as a Brooke County Constable. John worked as a Brooke County Deputy Sheriff and was a member of the Brooke County Deputy Sheriff Association.

He served on many boards among them, the Brooke County Park Board, Ambulance Board, Library Board, Animal Shelter Board, past president of the Brooke County Boxing Association, past president of the Brooke County Fair, past president of the Brooke County Commissioners. He served on the Civil Service Board, a Charter member of the Brooke Pioneer Trail Association. He attended St. John's Catholic Church with his wife.

John is survived by the love of his life his wife of 51 years, Karen Lee (Neil) Teeters. He was blessed with one daughter, Lea Marie Sicurella and his son-in-law, Paul Sicurella of Wellsburg, WV, who blessed he and Karen with two grandsons, Austin and Ty Sicurella; one sister, Nancy Lee (Karl) Sommer of Martins Ferry, OH; three nephews, Larry (Karen) Teeters of Wellsburg, WV, Bobby (Jamie) Munjas of Ohio, and Doug (Brenda) Munjas of North Carolina; two nieces, Lisa (Doug) Fedak of Florida and Cathy (Robby) Swan of Lakeland, FL.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, June 2, from 4-8 p.m. and again on Monday, June 3, from 10 a.m. until time of the funeral service at 11 a.m. at the Mullenbach Funeral Home, 669 Main St., Follansbee, WV, with Pastor Joy Leasure, officiating.

Interment will follow in Franklin Cemetery in Wellsburg, WV
