Lupus support group set to

meet for indoor picnic today

STEUBENVILLE, Ohio -The Lupus Support Group will welcome Vanessa Palmer as its guest speaker during an indoor picnic from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at the Martin Luther King Jr. Center located at 905 Market St.

The meeting will include health and wellness discussion and Tai Chi games and prizes.

Walter and Pat Howard are project coordinators.

Himmelrick receives scholarship

WEIRTON - Taylor Himmelrick, the daughter of Danita Himmelrick and the late Martin Himmelrick of Weirton, received the Deana Steele Memorial Scholarship at the Madonna High School graduation May 19 at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church.

The $1,000 scholarship goes to a Madonna graduate who is pursuing education in a art-related field.

It was established by trustees Amy Alvaro of New York, Cassandra Nelson of Texas and Dan Spanovich of Pittsburgh in memorial of Deana Steele, a 1999 Madonna graduate.

Lester and Sharon Steele donated a Divine Mercy image to the high school in their daughter's memory.

The Rev. Manny Gelido blessed the image at a Mass at the high school, and it is displayed in the school's chapel.

Pine named to dean's list

RANTHAM, Pa. - Weirton resident Reuben Pine was named to the dean's list for the 2013 spring semester at Messiah College.

Pine is a junior majoring in health and exercise science. Dean's list is earned by receiving a 3.6 GPA or higher on a 4.0 scale.

Messiah College, a private Christian college of the liberal and applied arts and sciences, enrolls more than 3,000 undergraduate and graduate students.
