BRAY, William M. "Bill," age 81, of Toronto, OH, passed away Wednesday, June 12, 2013, at the Life Line Hospital, Wintersville, OH.
He was born June 27, 1931, in Jefferson County, OH, the son of the late Russell M. and Florence (Glenn) Bray.
William was a member of the North River Avenue Christian Church of Toronto; a 60 year member of the Toronto Masonic Lodge 583 F.&A.M. having served as the Tyler; a 50 plus year member of the Royal Arch Masons 221 of Toronto, having served as treasurer; a member of the Valley of Steubenville Scottish Rite; was a charter member and one of the founders of the Knoxville Volunteer Fire Department where he had served as president, assistant fire chief in 1968 and from 1971-1981, fire chief in 1969 and 1970 and served as fire department chaplain for 19 years until 2013; was the Fire Prevention Officer of Knox Township, OH; a charter member of Chapter 589 Experimental Aircraft of Wintersville, OH; former early member of the Jefferson Ruritan Club
His family was pioneers and one of the first settlers of Jefferson County.
William was retired from the National Steel Corporation, Weirton Steel Company as an electrical supervisor.
He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Priscilla (Bluck) Bray who passed away December 1, 2001; brother Carl F. Bray and infant brother, Clifford Bray; sister, Ruth Margaret Rogers and a step-grandson.
William is survived by his wife, Ann J. (Young) Artman Bray whom he married June 4, 2004; daughter, Barbara Ann (Paul) Gault of Norwalk, CA; son, Robert M. (Amy) Bray of Peoria, AZ; grandchildren, Sonja R. (Jason) Reiff of Mareno Valley, CA, Deanna L. (Marc) Gilbert of Waymart, PA and Jeffrey M. Bray of New Philadelphia, OH; great-grandsons, Joshua Reiff and Drake Gilbert; great-granddaughters, Courtney and Sierra Reiff; stepsons, Charles Artman of East Liverpool, OH, David (Debbie) Artman and Curtis (Julie) Artman both of Toronto, OH; step- daughters, Tracey Wade of Wellsville, OH and Dani (Jim) Pieniazek of Hammondsville, OH; nine step-grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
Visitation for William will be 1-4 and 6-9 p.m. Monday, June 17, at the Clarke Funeral Home, 302 Main St., Toronto.
Masonic services will be held 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Knoxville Volunteer Fire Department services will be held 7:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
A celebration service of William's life will be held 11 a.m.. Tuesday, June 18, at the funeral home with Pastor Robert Hanze officiating. Interment will follow at the Ft. Steuben Burial Estates, Wintersville, OH.
Memorial contributions in memory of William may be made to the North River Avenue Christian Church or the Knoxville Volunteer Fire Department.
