Great things happen when Weirton Chamber of Commerce members join together with a common vision.
Local event planner Dawn Takacs, who joined the chamber this spring, has combined forces with Nino Karas, Serbian American Cultural Center general manager. Together, Takacs and Karas have created a new marketplace for the community.
The Serbian Sun Market has launched, and Takacs and Karas said the response was incredible. The Sun Market is open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursdays at the Serbian Center located at 1000 Colliers Way and offers a variety of produce, crafts, foods and rummage sale items.
Vendors came from all three states bringing in meats, cheeses, produce, plants, jams and jellies, fudge and homemade chocolates. Additionally, there were toys, clothes, hair accessories, purses, jewelry, cosmetics, tools, fishing and hunting equipment and home and garden decor - everything under the sun. The Sun Market is a place to shop, share, enjoy and eat lunch or dinner.
The Serbian Center is home to Tesla's Lounge and the lunch buffet will be available from noon to 2 p.m. and the dinner buffet will be available, beginning at 4 p.m. Both buffets include a soup and salad bar, hot entrees, vegetables, pasta, drinks and desserts.
Pony rides are planned for the July 4 Sun Market.
