Annual Weirton reunion Aug. 16-17

The ninth-annual Weir Avenue/North Weirton/Dunbar Alumni Reunion will be held Aug. 16-17.

There will be a "Get-Acquainted Social" on Aug. 16 at the Dunbar Center beginning at 5 p.m.

Activities on Aug. 17 will include:

A golf outing to which everyone is welcome. Contact William Curenton at (304) 748-1605.

A tour of the Weirton Area Museum and Cultural Center, 3149 Main St., Weirton, to view the Dunbar High School history display from noon to 1 p.m. Robert "Bob" Kelley will serve as host.

A block party on Vermont Street, beginning at 11 a.m. For vendor info, contact Earlean Jones at (304) 748-7834.

A dinner-dance at the Knights of Columbus Hall in the Galleria Room, Weirton. Doors will open at 7 p.m. with dinner served promptly at 7:30 p.m. Attire is casual.

Total cost for the weekend is $50 per person. T- shirts are $12 each. All payments are due by July 19.

Adults sought for softball tournament

The Follansbee Softball League seeks players for an adult co-ed softball tournament July 27 to benefit the Barretts, an Oklahoma family who lost their home in the recent tornado.

A cash prize will be awarded based on the number of teams that sign up. The team entry fee is $100.

The game was inspired by ongoing efforts by Vito's 2 and the Follansbee Chamber of Commerce to help the family.

Children's knitting group to meet

The Brooke County Library's Kids' Knitting Group will meet from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday.

Children in third grade or higher can learn to knit with help from instructor Nora Bell. They should bring yarn and needles or loom to start creating.

Photos sought for new restaurant

The owners of Legends, an upcoming new restaurant to open at the former Wellsburg American Legion headquarters, are seeking photos of historically significant people and businesses from throughout the Northern Panhandle to be displayed at the restaurant.

Photos of past West Virginia governors and 65 Medal of Honor recipients from West Virginia have been secured for the new business at 735 Charles St., Wellsburg.
