Never Alone searching

for rally vendors

WEIRTON - Never Alone West Virginia, an organization promoting a drug-free community, is searching for vendors for its annual community rally, set to take place 4 p.m. Aug. 17 at the Weirton Event Center.

Those who are not professional vendors or are not selling hot foods may purchase a table for $25. Professional vendors, or those selling hot foods, can purchase a table for $100.

Serbian Men's Club holding

chicken blasts every Wednesday

WEIRTON - The Serbian Men's Club will hold a chicken blast every Wednesday through Aug. 28 at the Serbian Picnic Grounds located on Kings Creek Road.

Those pre-ordering a chicken between 6 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. are guaranteed a whole chicken. Pick-up for pre-ordered chickens will be available from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Take-out and eat-in will be available from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. A whole chicken will cost $6.75. Beverages also will be available for purchase, and the Serbian Women's Club will be selling fresh-cooked corn on the cob and homemade haluski.

Olashuk delegate at

Kiwanis convention

FOLLANSBEE - Mary Kay Olashuk, a Follansbee resident and member of the Weirton Kiwanis Club, was one of 2,500 delegates globally and 17 from West Virginia attending the 98th-annual Kiwanis International Convention held in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, on June 27-29.

Kevin Dean of Morgantown was elected to a full term as one of 16 trustees on the international board.

And for the first time in Kiwanis' history, a woman was elected international vice president, making Sue Petrisin of Michigan the first female international president in 2015, which is the Kiwanis' 100th anniversary.

Members of the organization renewed their commitment to the elimination of maternal and neonatal tetanus around the globe.

In partnering with UNICEF, 36.5 million of the 110 million goal has been reached, and tetanus has been eliminated in six of the 34 targeted countries.

Next year's convention will be held July 17-20 in Tokyo-Chiba Japan

Shipmates planning

September reunion

Shipmates who served aboard the battleship USS Missouri (BB-63) will hold their 40th-annual reunion Sept. 10-18 at the Sheraton Harrisburg-Hershey Hotel in Harrisburg, Pa.

All veterans and interested parties along with their family and friends are invited.

The USS Missouri (BB-63) Association is a nonprofit organization made up of sailors, Marines, officers and midshipmen who have served aboard the famous battleship.

Brooke AARP Chapter

plans Victorian tea

WELLSBURG - The Brooke Area AARP Chapter 3910 will hold a Victorian Tea on July 27 at 2 p.m. at the Wellsburg Moose Lodge.

Victorian attire is optional, and patrons also can bring their favorite tea cup and saucer.

Tickets are $10 each, sold in advance by calling Linda Palmer (304) 737-3411 or stopping at the front desk of the Brooke County Library.

Proceeds from the event will benefit the Brooke County Library, Brooke County Museum and the Holy Family Food Pantry.

Entertainment will be provided by the Donahues.

American Legion steak fry planned July 19

WEIRTON - The Sons of American Legion, Post 10, Weirton will hold their annual steak fry 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on July 19.

The cost is $10 and includes steak, baked potato, salad, deserts and coffee. Legal beverages will be available for sale.
