Football boosters plan

WEIRTON - The Weir High Football Boosters will hold a golf tournament fundraiser Aug. 4 at Williams Country Club.

To assist with the costs, organizers currently are seeking sponsors, including $1,000 major sponsorships, $150 for a hole sponsor, $75 for a green sponsor and $75 for a tee sponsor.

Hilltoppers Reunion July 28

FOLLANSBEE - The annual Hilltoppers Reunion will be held July 28 at the Community House in Follansbee Park.

Oldtime residents of the Hooverson Heights area of Follansbee are invited to the reunion every year and are encouraged to bring a covered dish and participate in the afternoon of visiting and reminiscing with old friends.

Dinner is set for 1 p.m., and all beverages, table service and serving utensils will be furnished by the committee.

Bob Geary, assisted by Roy Waugh, head the planning committee and are assisted by Ruth Ann Eckles Shingleton, treasurer; Gloria Simmons Kotur, secretary.

Others on the arrangement committee are Betty Bioux Stoaks, Dorothy Lahita, Dolores Nixdorf Reese, Bessie Burton Eddy, Mary Jane Sabol Siudak, Jackie Trolley Perkins and David Eddy.

The Brindley, Bullock and Krystynak families started the reunion decades ago when they were reminiscing about the Oldtimers Baseball League that dates back to the 1920s era. The reunion usually attracts 150 friends together for the yearly event.

Library offers craft class

WELLSBURG - The Brooke County Public Library will be offering a craft class for children, age 9 and up, and adults at 3 p.m. Monday.

Participants will make an eye-catching coil bracelet. Stop by the library to see a sample.

Open house to be held

FOLLANSBEE - Area residents are invited to learn about the Energy Express summer reading program held by the Brooke County West Virginia University Extension Service at Jefferson Primary School through an open house held at the school from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday.

Liz Gatts, Brooke County WVU Extension agent, said, "Our children, mentors and volunteers work hard throughout these summer months, but they also have fun and take pride in what they do. They look forward to sharing their art and writing with their family, friends, neighbors and community leaders."

The program's coordinators also will accept donations of school supplies for local children at that time as well as through a door-to-door campaign to be held Wednesday.

Donations also may be made between 7:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. at the school through Aug. 2, the last day for the program.

Friends of Madonna Picnic set

WEIRTON - The Friends of Madonna Picnic is scheduled to take place at noon, Aug. 4 at the Weirton Madonna High School campus.

The event will include concessions, games, and entertainment, including performances by local dance studios, music by disc jockey Eric Hilty and a performance by the Joseph Sisters.

More information will be released as the event approaches.

Little Village Preschool accepting enrollment

FLORENCE - The Tri-State Christian Academy is accepting fall class enrollment for the "Little Village" preschool for 3- and 4-year-olds and "Romper Stomper" program for 2-and-a-half-year-olds at the school located at 750 Steubenville Pike, next to Iannetti's Garden Center.

The school also offers academics for kindergarten through 12th grade, reinforcing Christian morals and behavior and family focused. May through September classroom enrollment is limited.

Zombie paintball nights

MCDONALD - Urban Assault Paintball is hosting zombie nights from 7 p.m. to midnight July 27, Aug. 31, Sept. 28 and Oct. 5, 12, 19 and 26 at its facility located at 217 Laurel Hill Road.
