WEIRTON - The Weirton Area Museum and Cultural Center will hold its "Rediscover Holliday's Cove" 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Aug. 10 at the Weirton Event Center located on Cove Road.
Former Cove School Principal Mike Swartzmiller will be the master of ceremonies during the museum's recognition of Cove School faculty and students and unveiling the Cove School commemorative marker at 5 p.m.
Out of the Blue will perform a mix of traditional and progressive bluegrass and rock classic covers. The band includes husband-and-wife team of Kim and Bev West of Wheeling on guitar, banjo and vocals; Debbie Daugherty of New Cumberland on upright bass and vocals; Carlton Ferrell on fiddle; and Joe King on mandolin.
Charlie Tansek and the Chicago Tradition, based in Canton, Ohio, will perform traditional polka favorites. The lineup includes the accordion, trumpet, clarinet, saxophone, guitar and drums.
The Holliday's Cove Contest winner will be announced and there will be treasure and scavenger hunt from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Historical Holliday's Cove photographs will be on display; those who have such photos are asked to bring them.
The event also will include the burial of a time capsule, drawings and a trash and treasure flea market. A banner will be made available for those attending to sign between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m.; it will be included in the time capsule.
The museum will have its 2014 picture calendars, featuring historical photos of the Weirton and Holliday's Cove area, available for purchase. Calendars are $8 each or two for $15. There also will be Holliday's Cove mugs available in blue or green for $5.
