WEIRTON - In between planning several fundraising events for the next several months, the staff of the Weirton United Way took on another project; moving their offices downtown.

The United Way's office is now located at 3970 Main St., next to Gus's Goodies. Their telephone number is still (304) 748-7213.

"We started moving the office the last week of June," Executive Director Kristin Bowman-Cross said, noting they still are working to unpack and get everything organized. "We're still getting settled in."

She said they received a great deal of help in moving from their previous Pennsylvania Avenue location, including from current campaign chair Don Gianni Jr., J.J. Bernabei who arranged for volunteers to provide manpower, and Kenny Williamson and the Salvation Army for providing the group's box van.

Another piece of assistance came from the Business Development Corp. of the Northern Panhandle.

"Pat (Ford) and Marvin (Six) were instrumental in helping us furnish our office," Bowman-Cross said.

The BDC donated various pieces of furniture from the former Wheeling Corrugating plant in Beech Bottom, which they had purchased earlier this year.

The United Way, for its part, is working to sell much of the furniture as a fundraiser to benefit the organization.

"There are still some things available," she said, noting the furniture includes desks and chairs, and anyone interested can call the United Way for information.

In the meantime, the Weirton United Way continues to plan several fundraisers leading up to the start of the 2013 campaign.

Among the upcoming events are the 14th-annual Weirton United Way All Women's Golf Challenge Aug. 24 at Mountaineer's Woodview Golf Course. It is being chaired by Ginger Greene. The 10th-annual Weirton United Way Poker Run, chaired by Jeff Davis, also is approaching, scheduled for Sept. 14.
