Tony P. Sellitti named to hall of fame

WEIRTON - Tony P. Sellitti has been selected as a member of the Class of 2013 of the Weirton Hall of Fame in the category of business and industry.

Sellitti, a Weirton native, developed two of Weirton's neighborhoods - Country Club Estates and Riverview Estates - and helped develop and build more than 600 homes in Weirton and the surrounding area.

Sellitti had many ideas for the Weirton area and his accomplishments include building more than 200 apartments in Weirton and Steubenville; the Student Union Center at Franciscan University of Steubenville; the Immaculate Conception Church in New Cumberland; Sacred Heart of Mary Parish Convent; three city fire stations; several post offices in the eastern United States; and Lynwood Park Swim Club. He even took on the responsibility of improving the soccer field at Sacred Heart of Mary School.

Sellitti took pride in everything he built for the good fo the city. He had a reputation for doing everything with expertise.

Among some of his awards were the Art Workshop and Swaney Gallery Architectural Recognition Award from the National Home Builders Association for contributing to the knowledge and enlightenment of the Housing Industry Progress and Trends. He also received The Weirton Daily Times Reader's Choice Award in 1994 and 1996 for Best Home Builder in Weirton.

The fifth-annual Weirton Hall of Fame induction ceremony is set to take place at 2 p.m. on Aug. 4 at the Knights of Columbus.

Tickets are available until July 31 for $25 each at the Weirton Area Chamber of Commerce, Marsh's Pipe and Supply, R.E. Saxon Jeweler and the Weirton Municipal Building. Approximately 250 tickets are being sold and will not be available at the door. The event is open to the public.
