The Brooke County Public Library held its first annual Worm Race in keeping with “Dig Into Reading,” the theme for its summer reading program. Children could bring their own worms or pick one supplied by the library. The first worm to wiggle free of the pack in the middle of the table and cross the finish line was the winner. With their winning worms were, from left: Andrew Murdock, 4-year-old-son of Ed and Pam Murdock of Follansbee, whose worm, Speed Steer, placed first; Abigail Lawerence, 7-year-old daughter of Christine Lawerence of Follansbee, whose worm Lightning placed second; and Ella Mitchell, 6-year-old daughter of Scott and Jennifer Mitchell of Wellsburg, whose worm Leslie placed third. -- Contributed
