Weirton Area Port Authority

set to meet Wednesday

WEIRTON - The Weirton Area Port Authority will meet at 6 p.m. Wednesday at 2971 West St.

Discussion items include executive director position, charter committees, veteran program and status update.

Class of 1957 to meet

WEIRTON - The Weir High School Class of 1957 will hold their monthly class social at 6 p.m. Thursday at the Three Springs Drive Eat'n Park.

All classmates, spouses and friends are welcome.

Senior center to hold sock hop

WEIRTON - The Greater Weirton Senior Center will host Hank Vincent and The Stone Street Station for a sock hop from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Thursday.

Admission is a $5 donation.

Country Friends host Sands of Time

COLLIERS - The Country Friends will host The Sands of Time Saturday at the Memorial Hall located at 402 Old Police Lodge Road.

The doors open at 6 p.m., and the dance begins at 7 p.m.

Country Friends have covered-dish dinners and open mic nights every Monday and Friday. The doors open at 4 p.m., the meal begins at 5 p.m. and open mic begins at 6 p.m.

Temple holding Bible school

WHEELING - The Bethlehem Temple will hold vacation Bible school, with the theme "Winners in Jesus" from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Aug. 4, 14, 21 and 28 at the facility located at 330 N. Main St.

The church also will host with the North Wheeling Youth Center an annual family and friends picnic Aug. 31 at Idlewild Park and Soak Zone.

Cheering try-outs scheduled

WEIRTON - The Weir High School cheerleading team will hold try-outs at 11 a.m. Aug. 5 at the school located on Red Rider Road.

All students must have a completed physical form the day of try-outs, and such forms may be picked up at the school offices. Those trying out should wear black shorts and a white T-shirt.

There will be a mandatory meeting for all cheerleaders and parents at 1 p.m. Aug. 5.

St. Thomas to hold festival

WEIRTON - The St. Thomas Church will celebrate its 50th annual Peach Festival with a special service at 10 a.m. Aug. 11 at the church located on Three Springs Drive.

William "Bill" Swing, retired California Bishop; West Virginia Bishop Michie Klusmeyer; and former ministers the Rev. David Sailer and the Rev. Paul Daggett will attend.

Following the service, a luncheon will be held at Undo's at the Holiday Inn - Weirton located on Three Springs Drive. All former members and friends are invited to attend.

Cheering camp set

WEIRTON - The Cheer for Weir cheerleading camp will be held from noon to 3 p.m. Aug. 12-15 at the Weir High School gymnasium.

The camp is open to children in kindergarten through eighth grade. A parent or guardian must sign a wavier. Each participating child will receive a T-shirt and cheer at an upcoming high school football game.

The cost is $35 per child or $50 for a family of three.

Class of 1948 to hold reunion

WEIRTON - The Weir High School Class of 1948 will hold their 65th class reunion Sept. 14 at Gio's Restaurant located on Pennsylvania Ave.

All those classmates and friends wanting to attend should send $35 to Lois Merenda, 7029 Berringer Court, Coraopolis, Pa., 15108 by Aug. 15.

This will likely be the last class reunion, due to age and declining attendance.

Library holding used book sale

MCDONALD, Pa. - The Heritage Public Library will hold a used book sale, "Bag a Bunch of Books," from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 30 and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 31 at the library located at 52 Fourth St.

A bag of books will cost $5. The proceeds will benefit the library's roof fund.
