RODGERS, Ilene Veronica Manypenny, died on Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2013, at Fox's in Chester surrounded by family and the loving staff.
Ilene was born at her grandparents' home in New Cumberland and was a lifelong resident of New Cumberland.
The only child of Ruth and Robert Scott Many penny, Ilene married Richard H. Rodgers in 1949.
They have five children: Kerri Lyn (Charlie) Petry of Belle, WV; Sherri (Peter) Brown of Gold River, California; R. Terrance (Karen) Rodgers of Charleston, WV; Beth Ann (Richard) Powell of New Philadelphia, OH; and Randy (April) Rodgers of Charlottesville, VA. In addition, she is survived by 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Ilene was a life-long member of the New Cumberland Christian Church, where she was a Sunday school teacher and a member of the choir. She also belonged to the New Cumberland Young Women's Club.
A half-century ago, she and Dick started the cherished family tradition of summer vacations at the beach, which was one of the highlights of their lives. After Dick's retirement, they also enjoyed annual trips to Hawaii.
Visitation will be at Nixon's Funeral Home in New Cumberland on Thursday, August 15, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 16, at the New Cumberland Christian Church, followed by a brief service at New Cumberland Cemetery and then a lunch for family and friends at the New Cumberland Christian Church.
