Bruins blank Red Devils
WELLSBURG - The Brooke girls soccer team stopped visiting St. Clairsville 7-0 Monday at the Brooke Athletic Complex.
Bruins' goalkeeper Payge Farmer picked up four saves in earning the win. Amanda Loughrie had a pair of goals for the Bruins with Michaela Hinerman and Leila Hannoui each adding a goal and an assist. Also scoring goals for Brooke were Dynah Sayre, MeKenzie DeFranco and Megan Bilak. Assists were dished out by Andrea Jenkins, Shelby Cronin, Jenna Licceloi, Cheyenne Hudson and Lauren Altobell.
St. Clairsville goalie Brianna Sowers saved 11 shots.
Wildcats stop Big Reds
BELLAIRE - The Edison volleyball team went on the road and earned a four set victory at Bellaire, 15-13, 17-25, 25-22, 25-20, Monday.
Cassady Jarvis had an all-around performance for the Wildcats with 21 points, eight kills, four blocks, three aces and three digs. Caitlin Brenstuhl had 20 assists with Maddie Williamson adding 17 points and six digs. Katelyn Pollock had a strong outing with 14 kills, nine points and six digs, while Alexis Gill added six kills and five blocks, Kalee Neal had six digs and two points, Sarah Ross had nine assists, Jackie Wiedaman had six points and Kim Wilson had three kills.
Edison hosts Union Local Thursday.
Redskins spike Ferry
WINTERSVILLE - The Indian Creek volleyball team swept Martins Ferry 25-11, 25-9, 25-11 Monday.
The Redskins (1-1) were led by Jessica Furda's 24 assists, six digs, four aces and three kills. Bethany Davis had eight kills and 12 digs, while Alexis Fithen had eight kills and two blocks, Bre Berryman had six kills and three blocks and Kaylee LaRue had four kills and five digs. Kiarra Kamarec had four kills, two aces, two blocks and two digs, with Mallorie Sullivan adding seven digs and Brooke Spence contributing four digs.
The Redskins host Big Red tonight.
Red Knights swing past Wildcats
TORONTO - The Toronto golf team defeated Edison 180-189 Monday at Dyer Country Club.
The Red Knights' Will Newbold claimed medalist honors with a 40 while teammate Riley Keirsey shot 44. A pair of 48s were turned in by Ben Hlivko and Caden Kelly to round out the Toronto scoring.
Shane Pendleton shot 42 to lead the Wildcats. Clay Woodward added a 43 while Jimmy Marsh shot 51 and Ben Boyd shot 53 for Edison.
Panthers top Big Red
YORKVILLE - The Buckeye Local golf team beat Steubenville 197-208 Monday at Bec-Wood Hills Golf Course.
Brennan Czuchran shot a 43 to lead the Panthers. Eric Williams shot a 49, Josh Faldowski shot 51 and Dan Duill shot 54 for Buckeye Local.
Big Red's Kasey Patterson was medalist, shooting a 42 to lead all scorers. Josh Gault and Isaiah Lee each shot 54 and Isaiah Herring shot 58 to round out Steubenville's scoring.
Merchandise at Harding
STEUBENVILLE - The Big Red football and cheerleader parents will sell merchandise at Harding Stadium during seventh- and eighth-grade games.
Petteway to miss season
MORGANTOWN - West Virginia reserve linebacker Shaq Petteway will miss the 2013 season with a torn knee ligament.
Coach Dana Holgorsen said Monday the junior from Steubenville Big Red, will be redshirted after tearing an ACL in fall camp, which wrapped up last week.
Petteway had 42 tackles as a backup last season. He also saw considerable playing time on special teams.
West Virginia opens the season at home Saturday against William & Mary.
