NEW CUMBERLAND - The New Cumberland Lions Club opened their recent meeting with Lion Dorothy Hawkes giving the invocation and members reciting the Pledge of Allegiance.
The secretary and treasurer reports were submitted and accepted as read.
President Betsy Wells distributed directories and asked members to check the accuracy of the information and send any needed changes to her.

Wells said the Dan Dague Memorial Car Show will be held Sept. 2 at the Highlands. Organizers are requesting donations of canopies and water. Lion Russ Flanigan said volunteers need to be at the Highlands by 8 a.m., because there is an early bird drawing at noon and ticket sales start at 8 a.m. Another drawing will be held in the late afternoon, and New Cumberland Lions Club members will be selling tickets throughout the crowd.
Lion Jim Wells has tickets for a drawing for a quarter beef. The cost is $1 or six tickets for $5. The drawing will be held at the District N conference in Pipestem Nov. 13, and proceeds will benefit the Lions Club International Fund.
Lion Bob Manypenny reported on the pulled pork fundraiser Aug. 24, noting it has been the best so far. The Lions will have another pulled pork fundraiser during the New Cumberland River Fest Sept. 28-29 on River Avenue in New Cumberland. Volunteers are needed.
A paper drive will be held at the beginning of October.
Manypenny presented Lion Richard Roger with a chevron to note 55 years of membership. Rogers also was presented with a certificate for recruiting new members Matt Murray and Dan Smith. Manypenny is Membership Committee chair, and the committee includes Lion Barbara Blackwell and Lion Tom Stiles. Members are welcome to submit names of potential Lions.
Lion Joe Ghenne noted the Top of West Virginia Convention and Visitors Bureau and the Family Resource Network will hold a family fair Sept. 7 at the Weirton Event Center.
Flanigan made a motion, seconded by Manypenny, that the steak fry be held at Tomlinson Run next year, if a shelter is available.
Lion Richard Blackwell made a motion to adjourn.
