Tri-State Writers Society set

to meet at Eastern Gateway

STEUBENVILLE, Ohio - The Tri-State Writers Society, led by award-winning local author Karen Majoris-Garrison, will hold their monthly meeting at 6 p.m. Sept. 10 at Eastern Gateway Community College's Room 1502.

Published and aspiring writers of all genres are welcome to attend.

Lupus program announced

STEUBENVILLE, Ohio?- The Lupus Support Group meeting will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sept. 9 at the YMCA Wellness Center located at 3151 Johnson Road.

The meeting will feature an exercise center and health program tour.

On Sept. 20 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. there will be a Neighborhood Community Development Center line dancing class at the Martin Luther King Jr. Center, 905 Market St., Steubenville, instructed by Trina Lawson with Tonya Hampton speaking on the topic of "How Lupus Has Changed My Life."

The lupus programs are sponsored by Urban Mission Ministries/NCDC and funded by the Ohio Commission on Minority Health.

Stress-reduction program set

WHEELING - The Wheeling Hospital Community Education Outreach Office will hold a stress-reduction informational meeting from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sept. 17 at the hospital's Conference Room C.

The program is based in part on the work of Dr. Jon Kabat-Zinn at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center. Coping skills for dealing with stress will be taught. Those practicing mindfulness-based stress reduction have reported increased concentration, relaxation and improved sleep.

There is no charge.

Cup of Life resumes activies

WEIRTON - Cup of Life Ministries will resume their meetings at 6 p.m. Sept. 13 at the Marland Heights Community Church located at 3900 Bright Way.

The event includes a sandwiches and beverages at 6 p.m., and a women's worship service with worship leaders Judi Baldwin and Angel Pevich at 7 p.m., followed by Bible study of Psalms 46:10 with Tina Schoolcraft.

There also is a children's class for children in pre-kindergarten through fourth grade.

First United holding style show

WEIRTON - The First United Methodist Church will hold a style show and luncheon featuring Phyllis' Fashions of Washington, Pa., Sept. 15 at the church located at 3301 West St.

The doors open at 12:30 p.m., the salad luncheon begins at 1:15 p.m., and the style show will be held at 2 p.m.

Tickets are $10.

Women of Moose to hold style show

WELLSBURG - The Wellsburg Women of the Moose will hold their first salad luncheon and style show at 1 p.m. Sept. 28 at the Moose Lodge at 844 Main St.

Fashions will be presented by Anna Kay's Unique Fashions of Steubenville.

There also will be a Chinese auction with a variety of items up for bid.

Tickets are $7 each and may be purchased in advance only at the lodge or from any member.

St. Paul holding craft, food festival

BRIDGEPORT, Ohio - St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church will hold a fall indoor-outdoor craft and food festival from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 28 at the church located at 56381 National Road, next to Wilson Funeral Home.

The event includes vendors, food, music and a Chinese auction.

Conservation District holding contest

WINTERSVILLE, Ohio - The Jefferson Soil and Water Conservation District is holding a photo contest.

There are three categories: "Animals on the Farm," "Culinary Bounty" and "On the Waterfront," and any photo taken in Jefferson County are eligible. Photos must be submitted by 4:30 p.m. Oct. 1 at the conservation district office located at 587 Bantam Ridge Road.
