WEIRTON - The Weirton Area Water Board has announced a planned water service outage for portions of the city's downtown on Sunday.
Between 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday, water service will be shut off in the following areas: the 3400 and 3500 blocks of Main Street; Mildren Avenue from Walnut Street to Orchard Street; and Marland Heights Road from Main Street to West Street.
The outage is being done to allow water department crews to replace a broken valve.
Residents and businesses in the affected areas may experience discolored water throughout Sunday and early Monday morning. Customers also are being asked to refrain from washing laundry on Sunday to prevent rust from staining laundry.
Following the outage, there will be a boil order in the affected area because of the loss of water pressure. The boil order will remain in effect until further notice.
