RICHMOND - The Weir boys soccer team defeated Edison 7-2 Thursday.
Alex Hannah had a big day for the Red Riders, scoring four goals and dishing out an assist. Ethan Gilbert found the back of the net twice and also had an assist while Jordan Barney had a goal and an assist. Ryan Kirk had a pair of assists as well, with David Gianni and Chayton Luevano adding an assist apiece. Starting goalie Matt Tenaglio had seven saves while Daniel Mayfield had two saves.
Zac Sansone scored both of the Wildcats goals. Trav Bell had 15 saves in net with Keegan Gittins saving five shots.
Edison travels to Cambridge Saturday while Weir hosts Brooke Tuesday.
Steubenville edges Bobcats
CAMBRIDGE - The Steubenville High School boys soccer team slipped past Cambridge 2-1 Thursday at Harding Stadium.
Nate Kurty and Dominic DiCarlo each scored a goal for Big Red. John Paul Duff saved six shots.
Doug Thornton scored the Bobcats' goal with Kevin Scrudders saving 24 shots.
Big Red (4-1), who outshot Cambridge 32-9, is in action again Tuesday, hosting St. Clairsville at 6 p.m.
Lady Dons tops Redskins
WEIRTON - The Madonna girls soccer team rolled to an 8-2 victory over Indian Creek Thursday.
Rachel Grubbs put home four goals and assisted on another pair to lead the Blue Dons. Alayna Macaluso scored a pair of goals with Christina Conforti and Lizzy Conforti each scoring a goal as well. Mia Antinone assisted on a trio of goals while Gianna Antinone and Lizzy Conforti each added one assist. Tessie Tokash had six saves and Jenna Fonner added one more for Madonna.
Karlie Celestin scored both the Redskins goals while goalie Kristen Shimko saved 18 shots.
Madonna takes to the field today at 2 p.m. to take on Wheeling Central in the opening match of the Bishop's Cup at Wheeling Jesuit University. Indian Creek is in action again Saturday hosting Trinity at 1 p.m.
Big Red blanks Tyler
SISTERSVILLE - The Steubenville High School girls soccer team blanked Tyler Consolidated 3-0 Thursday.
Loren Gray had five saves in picking up the win. Brooke Sutherland scored two goals, both on assists from Emma Cotter. Hannah Masloski added an unassisted goal.
Tyler played a pair of players in goal with Sophie Kinnard saving 10 shots in the first half and Vanessa Templeton saving seven in the second.
Big Red hosts Harrison Central Saturday.
Crusaders spikes Bulldogs
STEUBENVILLE - The Steubenville Catholic Central volleyball team topped Bridgeport in four sets, 23-25, 25-20, 25-21, 25-17, Thursday at Mickey Barber Gymnasium. The win was the 100th of Central head coach Sherri Barber's career. This is her second stint as head coach of the Crusaders.
On the court, Megan Lloyd struck for 21 points, 19 assists and two aces with Maddy Gulan adding 16 points, 12 kills and five digs. Monica Fischer played a strong match with 21 points, nine kills and five digs while Kamy Belardine added 15 points and 11 digs and Monica Rigaud had 13 kills, five digs and four blocks. Also contributing in the win were Taylor Bednar (13 points, four blocks, three kills), Logan Colabella (six kills, three digs), and Ashlynne Daley (three kills, two points).
Central (5-2) travels to Conotton Valley Tuesday.
Redskins sweep Red Devils
WINTERSVILLE - The Indian Creek volleyball team swept St. Clairsville 25-20, 25-17, 25-19 Thursday.
Jessica Furda had 27 assists, 11 digs, four kills, and three aces for the Redskins with Kiarra Kamarec adding nine kills, three digs, two blocks and two aces and Bethany Davis adding nine kills and four digs. Martina Marko had seven kills, Mallorie Sullivan had six digs, Alexis Fithen had four kills and two digs, Kaylee LaRue had four digs, Whitney Martin and Brooke Spence had three digs each and Bre Berryman had two kills and two blocks.
Indian Creek (5-1) travels to Harrison Central Tuesday.
Oak Glen wins 2 in tri-match
NEW CUMBERLAND - The Oak Glen volleyball team swept a tri-match from Brooke and Beaver Local Thursday.
The Golden Bears won in two sets (25-15, 25-18) over the Beavers. Morgan Poling had three points, seven kills, five blocks and three digs with Madison Juszczak adding eight points, two kills, two blocks and two digs. Jessica Stivason had seven points, three kills, two blocks and three digs with Vanessa Hissam adding 10 points, four kills and two digs. Carissa Williams had six points and five assists, Jessica Hutton had two blocks, Kenzie Rosenlieb had five assists and three digs and Emmy Delekta had two points and three assists.
Oak Glen swept two sets (25-14, 25-26) from Brooke as well. Poling and Stivason each had six points, six kills, two blocks, and two digs with Hissam adding four points and nine kills, Williams adding seven assists, Delekta adding four points and two assists, Rosenlieb adding four points, and Kami Koper adding six digs. Juszczak had three kills and two digs.
For Brooke Emiley Stuck had nine assists, four digs and two blocks with Angela Staffileno adding nine kills and five blocks. Isabella Preston had four digs and three points, Kourtney Leonard had six kills, Alexa Girard had four points and Courtney Elliott had 12 digs.
The Bruins fell to Beaver Local 25-9, 20-25, 25-20. Stuck had 15 assists and six points with Staffileno adding 13 kills, seven blocks and four points. Leonard had eight kills and four points, Elliott had 18 digs and two points and Girard had three points. Preston added five points, four digs and two kills with Adrianna Bailey adding four points, two kills and two blocks.
Weir falls at Park
WHEELING - The Weir volleyball team lost to Wheeling Park Thursday.
Kim Persina was strong in the loss with 17 points, 11 blocks, seven kills and five assists. Ontasia Petteway also impressed with 11 points, nine assists, seven kills and three blocks. Elizabeth Kush added nine points, four kills, three aces and three blocks with Selena Wolverton adding 11 digs, eight points, six assists and two kills. Hannah Hinerman added six points, three digs, and two kills while Megan Longwell had two points and two digs, Samantha McCartney had four blocks and three points, and Morgan Goff had 15 digs and two assists.
Weir hosts Brooke Monday.
Big Red outshoots Toronto
TORONTO - The Steubenville High School golf team defeated Toronto 196-210 Thursday at Dyer Country Club.
Big Red was led by Kasey Peterson's 44. Josh Gault added a 47 with Jonah Moro shooting 51 and Isaiah Lee-Granatir shooting 54.
Toronto was led by medalist Riley Keirsey's 43. Parker Wright shot a 48 while Caden Kelly had a 53 and Sante Carducci had a 57.
Brooke splits tri-match
MORGANTOWN - The Brooke golf team split a tri-match Thursday at Mountain View Golf Course, shooting 181 to University's 172 and John Marshall's 235.
Lojszczyk shot 41 to lead the Bruins. Gilham shot 44, Petrosky shot 47, and Teaff shot 49.
University's Eri Wirth shot 38 to claim medalist honors.
