Brooke County Public Service

District meeting Wednesday

WELLSBURG - The Brooke County Public Service District's monthly construction meeting will be held at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at the district office located at 711 Charles St.

Port authority to meet Thursday

WEIRTON - The Weirton Area Port Authority's monthly meeting will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday at the United Steel Workers Union Hall located at 2971 West St.

History fair coming to Avella

AVELLA, Pa. - The Avella History and Genealogy Fair will be held Saturday at the Community Center on Avella Heights.

Doors will open at 8 a.m. for the event, which will include food sold by the ladies of St. Michael's Church through the day.

Church holding gospel meeting

WEIRTON - Weirton Heights Church of Christ will hold gospel meetings Oct. 6-10 with the theme "Family" at the church located at 3169 Pennsylvania Ave.

Frank Higginbotham is the guest speaker.

Floral show to benefit Relay

BURGETTSTOWN, Pa. - The Relay For Life team Queen Mother's Army will hold its sixth annual Floral Design show from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 5 at Our Lady of Lourdes McCashin Hall.

Admission is $13, with free gifts going to the first 100 guests. There will be floral designs from Jackie's Florist, owned by Della Serevicz; a Chinese auction and 50-50 drawing.

Dice run benefits veterans

Local Veterans of Foreign War Posts will sponsor a dice run Oct. 6 to benefit the West Virginia Veterans Home in Barboursville.

Registration will take place from 11 a.m. to noon at the New Cumberland Adam Poe Post 3526 located at 208 N. Chester St. The entry fee is $10 per person, and motorcycles and cars are welcome.

Those participating will visit VFW posts in New Cumberland, Chester, Weirton, Elm Grove and Moundsville.

The ride culminates at the New Cumberland park with food, a 50/50 drawing and door prizes.

Baked goods contest winner named

WELLSBURG - Susan Fodor of Wellsburg was the winner of the baked goods contest held by Brooke County 4-H leaders at the Brooke County Fair.

Chosen through votes cast by fairgoers, Fodor's winning entry was a banana nut cake.
