WEIRTON - Alabama-based Hibbett Sporting Goods says its new store at the Kmart plaza should be open by the end of the October.
Hibbett's is moving into the retail space vacated by Fashion Bug.
"We're thrilled to be opening a new store in Weirton," President and CEO Jeff Rosenthal said. "People in Weirton take their sports seriously, and we plan to give them the sporting goods products and know-how they've been looking for."
Hibbett Sports has more than 850 full-line sporting goods stores in small to mid-sized markets, most of then in the Southeast, Mid-Atlantic and Midwest. The company favors 5,000-square foot retail space in dominant strip centers and malls.
Stores carry a selection of athletic equipment, footwear and apparel, emphasizing customer service. Typically, they carry an expansive selection of brand name merchandise with an eye toward meeting the needs of teams as well as individual players, officials said. Stores also offer localized apparel and accessories.
Hibbett's roots date to 1945.
"No matter how many stores we open, we don't lose sight of the fact that every town we serve is a hometown," Rosenthal said.
