Greater Weirton Senior Center

hosting Hank Vincent today

WEIRTON - The Greater Weirton Senior Center will hold a dance today, with Hank Vincent and the Stone Street Station performing.

The doors open at 5 p.m., and the performance will be 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Admission is $5.

Pumpkin sale benefits Relay

WELLSBURG - The Brooke-Hancock Relay for Life Committee will hold its annual pumpkin sale from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday and from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday in front of Jackie's Florist, 2514 Commerce St./state Route 2.

Pumpkins, cornstalks, straw and bows for fall decorating will be sold.

Library hosting puppet show

WEIRTON - The Mary H. Weir Public Library will host Dan Raynor of Stevens Puppets for a performance of "The Legend of Sleepy Hallow" at 1 p.m. Saturday in the library's activity room.

Stevens Puppets has specialized in performing classic children's literature and fairytales with traditional marionettes for 80 years. The program is for all age levels and is educational and scored with classical music.

In a "un-scary" version of Washington Irving's classic, lanky schoolmaster Ichabod Crane falls in love with Katrina Van Tassel, and Katrina's father, Baltus, and village goofball Brom Bones try to frighten him away with the story of the Headless Horseman. The program is free.

Life Chain will be held Sunday

WEIRTON - The Life Chain will take place from 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Sunday on Main Street in front of St. Paul Catholic Church.

Those participating will pray for an end to abortion. It will take place, rain or shine, and signs will be available at the church. Those unable to stand for an hour are welcome to bring lawn chairs.

VFW Posts

holding run

Local Veterans of Foreign War Posts will sponsor a dice run Sunday to benefit the West Virginia Veterans Home in Barboursville.

Registration will take place from 11 a.m. to noon at the New Cumberland Adam Poe Post 3526 located at 208 N. Chester St. The entry fee is $10 per person, and motorcycles and cars are welcome.

Those participating will visit VFW posts in New Cumberland, Chester, Weirton, Elm Grove and Moundsville.

The ride culminates at the New Cumberland park with food, a 50/50 drawing and door prizes.

Story hours

begin Monday

FOLLANSBEE - The Follansbee Branch Library will hold story hours for children, ages 2-5, and their caregivers at noon Monday and Oct. 14, 21 and 28.

Children will enjoy a story, craft, games and a snack. They are invited to wear their Halloween costumes on Oct. 28.

Promotion benefits Make-A-Wish

WEIRTON - The Northern West Virginia Make-A-Wish program will receive 15 percent of the cost of meals sold from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. through Tuesday at the Weirton Bob Evans Restaurant.

WEIRTON - The Weirton Steel Basic Oxygen Plant employees' breakfast is held at 9 a.m. the second Tuesday of each month at the Three Springs Drive Eat'n Park.
