St. Francis feast day blessing

October 4, 2013
Weirton Daily Times
The Rev. Bradley Greer of Triumph of the Cross Church, left, sprinkled holy water on Dick, a Chinese pug, during Thursday’s pet blessing at Trinity Medical Center West. Several dozen area residents and their four-legged friends gathered for the service, conducted each year in celebration of the life and ministry of St. Francis of Assisi. The pug was “rescued” from the animal shelter by Mimi McCabe of Steubenville, right, who says her pet is “blind, doesn’t have the use of his back legs anymore and (is) losing his hearing, but he’s still happy and wagging his tail, and he gets to his food bowl pretty quickly.” The service was co-sponsored by the Sisters of St. Francis, of Sylvania. -- Linda Harris
