WEIRTON - The Madonna football team ran for 533 yards and six touchdowns en route to a 55-0 victory over Bridgeport Friday night at Jimmy Carey Stadium.
The Blue Dons (5-0) finished with 670 yards of total offense on 45 plays, and Madonna scored on eight of its 11 drives. The Blue Dons failed to score on the last drive of the first half and the last drive of the game as Madonna opted to run out the clock instead of running up the score.
The first half ended with the Blue Dons having a first down at the Bulldogs 30, and the victors ended the game with the ball on the visitors 27.

"That is probably the best all-around performance we have had since I have been here," third-year Madonna head coach Doug Taylor said. "We worked on being strong on our blocks and to eliminate penalties. We did that tonight."
The Bulldogs tallied 95 yards of offense on 41 plays.
"They jumped on us early, and they kept the momentum," Bridgeport (2-4) head coach Rudy Vavrock said. "They are a very good team. They are real athletic.

"We did not do a good job of tackling. They beat us on both sides of the ball."
The Blue Dons scored on their first offensive play of the game and never looked back.
Offensively, Madonna was led by its dynamic duo of quarterback Ross Comis and running back Eliott Nero.
Comis rushed for 171 yards and three touchdowns, and the three-year starter also completed 6 of 8 passes for 137 yards and two more touchdowns. Nero recorded 176 yards on the ground on 13 carries. He also scored two touchdowns. Nero also caught one pass for 13 yards.
Tyler Ewusiak caught a 69-yard touchdown pass on his lone reception of the game and Marcello Biondillo tallied two catches for 36 yards and a touchdown.
Jacob Ray led the way offensively for the Bulldogs with 49 rushing yards on nine carries.
"Not to take anything away from Bridgeport, but they are still a young team," Taylor said. "They are well coached. We are senior laden, and it really showed."
Madonna scored the first five times it had the ball.
The Blue Dons forced the Bulldogs to punt on their opening possession of the game.
On Madonna's first play, Nero rumbled 66 yards for a touchdown, and Matthew Green's extra point put the boys from Hancock County up, 7-0, with 10:15 left to play in the first quarter.
The Blue Dons' next scoring drive took two plays. It was capped off by a 16-yard run by Nero, and Green's PAT put Madonna ahead, 14-0, with 7:44 showing.
Madonna's third drive took 10 plays, and it resulted in its third touchdown of the quarter. Comis scored on an 8-yard run, and Green's conversion kick made the score 21-0 with 11 seconds left to play in the quarter.
The drive was set up by an interception by Bower at the Blue Dons' 48.
Madonna's fourth drive lasted two plays, and it resulted in a 49-yard touchdown by Comis. Green's extra point made the score 28-0 with 7:43 left to play in the second stanza.
The Blue Dons' fifth drive last five plays, and it resulted in another 8-yard touchdown run by Comis. Green's extra point split the uprights, and Madonna led 35-0 with 3:11 left to play in the first half.
The Blue Dons got the ball to start the second half, and Madonna once again quickly drove down the field for a touchdown. The Blue Dons drove 71 yards in just three plays, and the drive was capped by a 69-yard touchdown pass from Comis to Tyler Ewusiak. Green's PAT put the Blue Dons out in front, 42-0 with 10:12 left to play in the third quarter.
After another Bridgeport punt, Madonna took over at its own 8, but the Blue Dons once again quickly drove down the field. The seven-play drive was capped by a 37-yard touchdown pass from Comis to Biondillo, and Green's kick made the score 49-0 with 5:08 left to play in the quarter.
The touchdown came on a fourth-down conversion.
Madonna's final scoring drive of the game covered 66 yards, and it was the Blue Dons' third scoring drive of two plays. The drive was capped when Dustin Brown ran through the Bulldogs' defense for a 49-yard touchdown with 9:03 left to play in the game. Madonna knelt down on the extra point to keep the score at 55-0.
"You always want to improve," Taylor said. 'We are going to take this in stride. We are going to get ready for Bishop Donahue next week."
Madonna has now outscored its opponents, 241-27 this season.
The Blue Dons host Bishop Donahue on Friday.
