A long way down

October 6, 2013
Weirton Daily Times
Clarissa Whiteman, 9, of Tiltonsville watched with volunteer Bobby Taylor of Hopedale as her cousin, Hainiah Crowe, 4, of Keyser, careens down an inflatable slide before going down the slide herself at the Ohio Valley Down Syndrome Support Group’s 11th Annual Buddy Walk Saturday at Jim Wood Park. More than 500 participated in the event, which was held to encourage everyone to include and accept children and adults with Down Syndrome in everyday life. In addition to taking laps around the park’s walking track, adults and children enjoyed games, music, pumpkin painting, door prizes and a Chinese auction. The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department also was on hand to fingerprint children and Sheriff Fred Abdalla presented medals to children with Down Syndrome participating in the walk. — Warren Scott
