Dons top Monarchs

MOUNDSVILLE - The Madonna girls soccer team defeated host John Marshall, 4-1, Saturday morning.

Alayna Macaluso got the scoring started with a goal from Mia Antinone in the first five minutes. Rachel Grubbs then scored three straight, two unassisted and one off a Gabby Hotten helper, for a 4-0 lead.

John Marshall's Hailee McClelland scored in the 78th minute.

Tessie Tokash had four saves for the Blue Dons, while Aysa Carney had 12 saves for the Monarchs.

Madonna (9-7-1) visits Robert C. Byrd on Monday.

Oak Glen's Chambers places first

CAMERON - With a time of 22:38, Oak Glen cross country runner Kelsey Chambers placed first at the Wild and Wet Invitational on Saturday. The Bear placed fifth as a team. Alyson Snow placed 15th overall with a time of 25:09 and Casey Baird was 20th with a time of 25:09.

The Oak Glen boys cross country team place second at the Wild and Wet Invitational. Cody Tropeck paced the Bears with a sixth place finish with a time of 19:25. Brock Smith was 10th with a 19:59. Zach Mynes and Tanner Gorby each finished in the top 15.

The teams next meet will be at Regionals in Mineral Wells, W. Va. on Thursday.

Big Red to sell tickets

STEUBENVILLE - Steubenville Big Red will be sell advance football tickets for next week's game at Youngstown Ursuline beginning Tuesday at the high school ticket office. The cost is $8 for reserved seats and $5 for students.

The ticket office will be open from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday and from 8 a.m. to noon on Oct. 18.

Big Red boosters to meet

STEUBENVILLE - The Steubenville Big Red Boosters Club will meet at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Harding Stadium Fieldhouse. All are welcome and memberships are available.

The boosters are sponsoring buses to Ursuline. Seats cost $25, and a game ticket is included. Departure is from Harding School is at 4:45 p.m. and will return there after the game.

The buses are smoke free and alcohol free. Payment for seats can be made at today's Salesianum or at Tuesday's booster meeting. All seats are on a first-come basis.
