Oak Glen splits in Parkersburg

PARKERSBURG - The Oak Glen volleyball team beat Tyler Consolidated and Ritchie County, 25-15 and 25-19, 25-15 and 25-18, respectively, on Saturday. The Bears fell to Parkersburg, 25-22 and 25-15 and Parkersburg South, 25-23, 25-10.

For the day, Jessica Stivason scored 29 points with seven kills and Morgan Poling had 18 blocks with 24 kills.

Madison Juszczak scored 12 points with 26 kills and an ace. Carissa Williams added 45 assists and Vanessa Hissam scored 17 points with 25 kills.

Brooke earns a victory tourney

PARKERSBURG - On Saturday, the Brooke volleyball team beat Magnolia, 25-17 and 27-25 for its lone win in a Parkersburg South tournament. Parkersburg beat the Bruins, 25-17 and 25-6, while Parkersburg South won, 25-13 and 25-11.

Emily Stuck paced Brooke on the day with 13 points, 27 assists, four digs, two aces and two blocks. Madison Marchetti tallied five points, 10 kills, 12 digs and three aces, while Isabella Preston scored nine points with 19 digs.

Alexa Gerrard had 15 points and three kills, Courtney Koscevic had seven kills and four points and Abby Adams had five blocks and four kills.

The Bruins next game is Oct. 30 against John Marshall. Their record is 10-19.

Madonna girls soccer wins

The Madonna girls Soccer team closed out its regular season with a 3-1 victory over Ravenswood on Saturday.

Leanne Grubbs put Madonna (10-8-2) on the board at the 13th minute mark with a direct free kick from 40 yards out. The shot went over the keepers outstretched hands and just under the crossbar. Not be be outdone, her sister Rachel followed up with a goal of her own just one minute later giving Madonna a 2-0 lead just 14 minutes into the match.

At the 50th minute, Rachel Grubbs added another for the Dons, her 32nd of the season. This one, like her first, was assisted by Mia Antinone. Ravenswood got on the board in the 64th minute with a goal by junior midfielder Kayla Scritchfield.

Madonna had 20 shots on goal, while Ravenswood had just nine. Madonna's Tessie Tokash had eight saves in goal and Ravenswood's Makayla Berry made 17 saves.

The Dons return to action on Tuesday in the sectional semifinals against Wheeling Central at 7 p.m. at Oak Glen High School.

Big Red Boosters

STEUBENVILLE - The Big Red Boosters will meet on Tuesday, Oct. 22 at the Harding Stadium Field House at 6 p.m. All are welcome. Memberships are available.

Parents meeting

STEUBENVILLE - The Steubenville Big Red football and cheerleader parents will meet at 7:30 p.m. tonight at the Harding Middle School cafeteria. The football banquet will be discussed and new stadium T-shirts will be available for $10.
