To the Editor,
Does anyone know what we will be voting on Saturday, Nov. 9, 2013? "Excess School Levy?" Is this a renewal levy? If so why is it necessary to use words like "increase the levy" or "the additional levy?"
Will our taxes go up? Some say yes, some say no! Who's right? I've been told the rate of levy will remain the same. But I believe if the assessed property valuation of your property went up, you will be paying more. So in reality your taxes will go up.
The order for this levy was made on July 18, 2013. I haven't seen any advertisement except for an article in the newspaper. Two years ago the $56 million levy was widely advertised (billboards, public meetingsetc, but not much about this one. Kind of low key wouldn't you say?
Didn't we just spend $6-$7 million for "Sports Complexes", groundsetcin the last levy? Now we need $3,375,000 to support these same things for the next 5 years.
Also, didn't we authorize millions of dollars for renovations to buildings, security entrance/exit doors, replace roofs, heating ventilation/ACetc in the last levy? Now we need more than $6 million to do the same thing? This seems like a lot of money is needed on top of the last levy. It also seems like the whole thing is being kept low key for some reason. It's not even going to be advertised until Oct 31 and Nov 7 in the newspapers (nine days and two days before the "Saturday" election).
How are we, the voters, supposed to give an educated vote on something we know very little about?
