Chambers takes 2nd at states

The Oak Glen girls cross country team finished in fifth place Saturday in the West Virginia Class AA-A state cross country championships at Cabell Midland High School.

It is the highest finish in school history.

"Our program had a really good year," said head coach Adam Howell.

The Golden Bears were led by senior Kelsey Chambers, who finished second in 19:14.26, 11 seconds behind winner Alicia Parsons, a freshman from Grafton.

Junior Felicity Nolder placed 11th in 20:50.81.

Senior Casey Baird, who has been running with a toe injury for the past couple of weeks, placed 35th in 21:57.61.

Junior Alyson Snow finished 54th (22:56.15), sophomore Kaylee Coble 62nd (23:33.06), freshman Kimberly Smith 71st (23:56.34) and junior Brianna Logston 80th (24:42.31).

Philip Barbour and Charleston Catholic tied with 91 points, but Philip Barbour won the tiebreaker with the fastest sixth-place finisher.

Berkeley Springs totaled 96 points, Williamstown 110 and Oak Glen 122.

Oak Glen senior Brock Smith made it as an individual and placed 43rd in 18:21.13.
