WEIRTON - Thanksgiving often is a time to spend with family, gathered around a table with a big meal, and remembering the things that make life great.
With that in mind, the Weirton Ministerial Association is once again planning its annual Community Thanksgiving Dinner, which is scheduled for 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 28 at the Greater Weirton Senior Citizens Center.
While the event was originally started as a way to make sure area residents who might not have family or the opportunity to have a big feast could still enjoy a traditional Thanksgiving meal, these days it is open for anyone who is interested.
"This is a family event for all ages," Elder Michael Smith of the Ministerial Association said. "Literally everyone is welcome."
Thanks to donations and contributions from the community, the dinner is free for anyone interested in attending.
The meal will include turkey, ham, dressing, yams, green beans a dessert and more, according to organizers.
Transportation to and from the senior citizens center, as well as meal delivery, also will be available by calling (304) 748-4422 prior to the dinner.
In addition to dinner, fruit baskets, cards, puzzles, games and some television will be available for those coming in.
