WEIRTON - The skies over downtown Weirton will, once again, light up following the city's Christmas Parade this year.

The Nov. 30 parade, organized by the Weirton Area Chamber of Commerce and kicking off the holiday season in the community, will see the return of a festive fireworks display.

The theme of this year's parade is "A West Virginia Christmas," and will begin at 6 p.m. with local representatives to the West Virginia Legislature as the grand marshals and many of the parade participants decorated in lights.

The fireworks will begin at the conclusion of the parade, set off from behind the Millsop Community Center.

The display is made possible by sponsorship from Hancock County Savings Bank, the grand finale sponsor; as well as MedExpress; FirstEnergy; Marsh Pipe and Supply; and Doane Family Enterprises, doing business as McDonald's.

"We're so appreciative of our sponsors and to have Hancock County Savings Bank as our grand finale sponsor," Weirton Chamber President Brenda Mull said. "We couldn't do it without them."

This is the second year for the fireworks display, and the second year for Hancock County Savings Bank to be the grand finale sponsor.

Bank President and Chief Executive Officer Cathy Ferrari said it was a no-brainer to continue supporting the chamber and its Christmas activities.

"We're very proud to support the chamber," she said. "It's for the children and the families, and we're proud to be a part of it."

The fireworks display began as part of the 2012 parade as a way to bring a new level of entertainment to the event. This will be the third year the Weirton Christmas Parade will take place at night.

The parade is being sponsored this year by Weirton Medical Center, West Virginia Northern Community College, First Choice America Community Federal Credit Union and Nick's Auto Sales.
