To the editor:
Every year, the Women in Action Against Cancer Coalition runs a 50-50 drawing, with the winner announced at our October wreath ceremony.
This year's winner has a story with both a happy and a sad ending.
The gentleman called and called for tickets, adamant that he wanted to buy some. We made it happen, and our last 45 tickets went to Bob Bell. On the day of the drawing, his ticket was drawn, and I was informed that his half always was earmarked for the group. Shortly after this generous gesture, Bell passed away.
At about this time, the coalition was informed about a group of children often overlooked at Christmas. So, in a one-time exception, the coalition is using Bell's donation to provide gifts for Christmas to 12 children in the foster care program in Jefferson County. His generosity will provide joy to them. Our thanks to Bob, and condolences to his family.
