Holiday dinner at

Crestview Inn

The Thanksgiving luncheon at the Crestview Inn at the Jefferson County Joint Vocational School in Bloomingdale will be held from noon to 1:30 p.m. on Nov. 26.

The menu will include slow roasted turkey, brown sugar baked ham, mashed potatoes, turkey gravy, marshmallow topped yams, turkey noodles, sage stuffing, green beans, pumpkin pie and bread pudding.

Cost is $12 per person, and reservations are required by calling (740) 264-5545, extension 602.

JVS is located on 1509 county Highway 22A.

Wellsburg Elks

Wellsburg Elks Lodge No. 1553 will hold its annual memorial service at 2 p.m. on Dec. 1 at the lodge.

The service is performed by the lodge officers in remembrance of members who have died.

Each year the lodge donates a book to the Brooke County Library in memory of each member who has passed away during the past year. Throughout the years, more than 500 books have been donated to the library.

The service is open to the public as well as to all Elks and their families. A tea will be held afterwards.

Weekend events

at E.S. center

Two weekend events at the East Springfield Community Center have been announced.

The center will host a karaoke fun night with disc jockey Chelsea Matta from 7:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Friday.

Admission is $3 with children under age 10 admitted for free.

All ages are welcome to participate. Refreshments will be available for sale.

There will be $1 from each admission going into the "singer reward jar." Each singer will receive a ticket for a drawing that will determine the winner of the money.

A door prize ticket will be given to all who attend for a drawing of two free dinners that the center holds monthly.

On Saturday from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m., the center will welcome the Sands of Time, a country classic band that will perform a variety of selections.

Admission is $5. There will be a 50-50 drawing. Refreshments will be available for purchase.

Homecoming

reunion Nov. 30

The Mingo Junction Homecoming Reunion for all former graduates and residents of Mingo Junction will be held once again on the Saturday following Thanksgiving, meaning Nov. 30.

Festivities at the Mingo Junction American Legion will get under way at 7:30 p.m.

Rose Angelica will be performing and releasing her new CD. Old band footage also will be shown. There will be a fundraiser for the Mingo Revitalization Committee. Sponsors for the event are Spuds Parkview Inn, Drews Shutzen Club and the Legion.

Coburns entertain

Toronto group

Doris Matyas presided at the Nov. 14 Toronto Senior Citizens meeting, welcoming guests Tanya Weaver and Bernie White and new member Linda Ragsdale, who won the 50-50 drawing.

Mary Alice Meyer gave the blessing for the turkey dinner, read Thanksgiving and led in opening exercises.

Mr. and Mrs. Richie Coburn entertained the members with oldies songs. November birthdays and anniversaries were announced.

Lola Swanagan gave a report on 2014 trips. Reports were given by Shirley Rebich, Joyce Dobbs and Rosemary Bonofine.

Door prize winners were Bernie White, Joyce Zimmerman, David Krause, Rose Dials and Dee Fouts. Bingo winners were Debbie Custer, Pat Ferrell, Jane Hanuscin, Arlene Zahniser, Irene Sabados and Laura Mamula.

Scat winners were Laura Mamula, Sharon Carroll, Irma Straka, Jane Hanuscin, Pat Rose and Mary Alice Meyer.

The Christmas dinner will be held at 5 p.m. on Dec. 12 at the Stratton Municipal Building.

Breakfast with Santa scheduled

The Warren Township Lions Club will be hosting an all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast with Santa on Dec. 7 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Tiltonsville United Methodist Church located at 106 Grandview Ave., Tiltonsville.

The cost is $5 per breakfast. Children age 8 and under eat for free.

Class of 1964 planning reunion

The Wintersville High School Class of 1964 reunion planning committee will meet at 1 p.m. Friday at C.J.'s Family Restaurant, Steubenville, to finalize addresses and get letters mailed out for its 50-year reunion to be held Aug. 16.

All classmates are encouraged to attend. Addresses or questions can be referred to Lola Dornbusch Swanagan at (740) 537-4977.

The committee's last meeting on Oct. 25 at St. Florian Hall involved menu selection.

Crocheting group to meet

The Brooke County Public Library's Crocheting Group will meet at 5 p.m. Wednesday. The group is for adult beginners through experts.
